The Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation (CTO) Annual Forum (CTO ICT Forum’17) will be hosted in Maputo by Autoridade Reguladora das Comunicações – INCM, Mozambique’s communications and postal regulator, on 11 - 13 September 2017.

The CTO ICT Forum’17 that takes place ahead of the Council Meeting and is an opportunity for members and other stakeholders to discuss the issues affecting the development of ICTs in the Commonwealth and beyond.

With half of the world’s population yet to use the Internet, and as we enter the age of all-IP networks, IoT, Cloud computing, Big Data, immersive and machine-to-machine technologies and always-on mobile broadband, many more are at risk of being left out, so the need for universal access to the Internet becomes more pressing. Indeed, while liberalisation and privatisation proved critical instruments in the promotion of access to ICTs over the past two decades, current regulatory models are becoming increasingly inadequate for emerging technological and market trends that provide opportunities as well as threats for existing universal access funding models and national digital economies.

Held this year under the theme Digital Nations, Digital Wealth, the Maputo discussions will focus on:

  • The digital future
  • Infrastructure and investment
  • Universal access to broadband
  • Applications
  • Internet and cyberspace
  • Skills and entrepreneurship

Reasons to attend:

  • Network with international stakeholders – Policymakers, regulators and private sector
  • Discuss the future of mobile technologies and applications
  • Assess the latest funding and investment opportunities in ICTs across the Commonwealth
  • Learn how to implement effective regulatory tools and policies
